Eid al -Fitri or Iduladha that falls right on Friday is a rare moment that attracts the attention of the scholars. Because, two major worship – SHAT ID and Friday prayers – gathered in one day. Can Id Prayers replace Friday? This paper reviews the argument, the practice of friends, and differences of scholars’ opinions about the laws and choices of worship on this special day.
Valid argument about the fall of Friday prayers due to prayer ID
There are a number of hadiths that show their specialty on Friday if you meet with Idulfitri and Iduladha, which can be sufficient with ID prayers and not Friday prayers, then Friday prayers are replaced with zhuhur prayers.
Told from Iyas bin Abi Ramlah Asy-Syamiy, he said, “I once accompanied Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan and he asked Zaid bin Arqam,
I witnessed with God’s messenger – that God’s prayer and peace be on it – two days, gathering one day, he said yes. He said, how was it made, he said, hopefully God’s prayer, then he is licensed in the group, and he said, “Anyone who wants to pray, let him pray.”
“Have you ever witnessed the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam met with two IDs (Idulfitri or Iduladha meet Friday) in one day?” “Yes,” answered Zaid. Then Muawiyah asked again, “What did he do at that time?” “He performed the ID and gave relief to leave Friday prayers,” Zaid answered again. Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Who wants to pray Friday, then please.” (HR. Abu Daud, no. 1070; An-Nasai, no. 1592; Ibn Majah, no. 1310. Al-Hafizh Abu Thahir said that this hadith sanad hasan).
From Tabiin named ‘Atha’ bin Abi Rabbah Rahimahullah, he said,
Putra Putra Al -Zubayr on Eid al -Fitr on the Group Day is the first day, then we go to the group, so he does not go out to us, and we will be blessed. With circumstances, when he mentioned, he mentioned him, so he said Sunnah.
“Ibn Az-Zubair when the ID fell on Friday had prayed with us in the morning. We came out for Friday prayers, then at that time, Ibn Az-Zubair did not come out, he only prayed alone. When that Ibnu ‘Abbas was in Tahaif. Running the teachings of the Prophet (Ashobas Sunnah). ” (HR. Abu Daud, no. 1071. Al-Hafizh Abu Thahir said that this hadith is valid).
From Anhuma An-Nu’man bin Basyir Radhiyallahu ‘Anhuma, he said,
Apostle of Allah – May God’s Prayer and Peace on him – is reading in two days and in the group with (praise your Lord’s name, the highest)) and (whether you haveeeth gossip) one day, he also reads it in two prayers.
“Rasulullah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam used to read in two IDulfitri and Iduladha prayers) and in Friday prayers” Sabbihisma Robbikikan a’la “(Surah al-A’laa) and” things ataka hadithul ghosiyah “(Surah al-Ghasyiyah).” An-Nu’man bin Basyir said that was when the ID was coincided with Friday, he read the two letters at each prayer. (HR. Muslim, no. 878)
Is Friday Prayer still mandatory after the ID prayer? This is a complete explanation of the scholars
The scholars disagree about the law of Friday prayers when the holiday (ID) fell to coincide with Friday. Madzhab Hanafiyah and Malikiyah are of the view that the Friday prayer and Friday prayers are two separate worship. So, both of them must still be done and cannot replace each other.
Likewise the opinion of Imam Asy-Shafi’i. However, he gave the rural population who came to Id prayer so he could not attend Friday prayers.
Imam Nawawi in the book of Al-Majmu ‘says:
If the Group Day agrees one day, and the people in the villages, which are required by the group, are the same as the state, the state, goodness, goodness, goodness, goodness of the state. Without the succession of the people in the country, and in the people in the villages and the villages: the text determined for the Shafi in the mother and the predecessor, that not.
“If Friday coincides with the holiday (ID), then the villagers who are actually affected by the obligation to pray Friday – because they are within the range of call to prayer from the city – to carry out the ID prayer, then according to the agreement of the scholars, the obligation to pray Friday still applies to the city residents.
As for the villagers, there are two opinions among the Shafi’i school of schools. The most powerful opinion and is an opinion that is confirmed directly by Imam Asy-Shafi’i, both in the book of Al-UMM and his old opinion, states that they are no longer obliged to pray Friday after the ID prayer. However, there is also the second opinion which states that the obligation to pray Friday still applies to them. “
So, the fall of the obligation for Friday prayers-according to the Shafi’iyyah ulama-only applies to those who come from Al-Qura (villages), and have participated in the Id prayer with the priest. For them, they were given a choice, between joining Friday prayers and the priest and the local community (Ahl Al-Hadhar) or returning to their homes and replacing Friday with Zhuhur prayers.
This opinion is based on the atsar of Uthman bin Affan Radhiyallahu ‘anhu when simultaneously occurred between ID and Friday at his time, Uthman said:
He has gathered for you on your day, this is a long time. I gave birth to him
“Gathering today two IDs. Who came from Al-‘aliyah (the area in the corner of Medina which is approximately 4-6 miles from the city of Medina) if you want to wait Friday, please, and if you want to go home too please. I have allowed it.”
In Al-Mughnī, Ibn Qudamah is mentioned,
If the holiday agrees to a group of Friday, the presence of the group falls on Eid al -Fitr prayers, except the priest, because it is not removed from him except that it was not collected for him. Said: in the authority of Imam Rahwayyan
If the holiday falls on Friday, then the person who has performed the ID Prayer is no longer obliged to attend Friday prayers. However, this does not apply to the priest. The priest is still obliged to uphold Friday prayers for worshipers present, unless there is not enough people to congregate. In this case, there are two opinions among scholars about whether the priest remains mandatory or not.
Shaykh Majduddin Ibn Taimiyyah said,
If a group and group gather, the group will fall from the presence of Eid al -Fitr, except for the priest … and its presence is the first.
“If the holiday and Friday fall on the same day, then the obligation to fall Friday prayers for people who have attended the ID Prayer. However, this does not apply to the Imam – he is still required to hold Friday prayers. However, still present Friday prayers are more important choices.”
Meanwhile, according to the opinion of Imam Ahmad’s other, if Friday prayers are performed at the time of the ID prayer, then that is sufficient – because he argues that Friday may be done before the zawāl (the sun slip).
Shaykhul Islam Ibn Taimiyah Rahimahullah explained that in this case there were three Ulama views:
- Friday prayers remain mandatory for those who have prayed ID, following the generality of the proposition about Friday obligations.
- Friday died for residents far from the city, as the relief given by the Caliph ‘Uthman Bin’ Affan.
- The most powerful opinion is that people who have prayed ID are no longer required to pray Friday. However, the priest still has to carry out Friday for those who have not prayed ID or who want to continue to carry it out.
This opinion is supported by the hadith of the Prophet and the practice of his friends such as Umar, Uthman, Ibn Mas’ud, Ibn Abbas, and Ibn Az-Zubair. In the hadith, the messenger of God (may peace on it) said:
O people! You have become good, so anyone who wants to watch the group, let him give testimony, because we gather.
“O people, you have gotten good. Who wants to keep attending Friday prayers, please, because we will still hold it.”
This shows that the ID Prayer is sufficient for the purpose of the gathering of Muslims, and if they do not attend Friday, one can still perform the Zhuhur prayer. Breasting everyone to remain present Friday will interfere with the purpose of the holiday, which is the time to be happy and relax.
Shaykh Ibn Baz Rahimahullah also explained that if the holiday falls on Friday, then for those who have prayed ID, he can choose: Want to keep praying Friday or enough zhuhur prayer. However, the best is to remain present Friday. As for the priest, he is still required to hold Friday prayers if there are three or more people present. If not, enough with the Zhuhur prayer.
Anyone who does not attend Friday prayers and has attended the ID Prayer, so it is obligatory for him to do the Zhuhur prayer as explained in the general hadith. The hadith explains that for those who do not attend Friday prayers, then instead, he performs the Zhuhur prayer (four rak’ahs). (See Fatwa Al-Lajnah Ad-Da’imah Li Al-Buhuts Al-‘ilmiyyah Wa Al-Ifta ‘, 8: 182-183, Fifth Question of Fatwa No. 2358, Mawqi’ Al-Ifta ‘)
In conclusion, Friday prayers are still required to be done even though someone has joined the id in the morning. This is the opinion of the majority of scholars.
For those who think that if you don’t pray Friday, you don’t need to pray anymore?
This opinion was given to Atha` as Imam Nawawi in Al-Majmu ‘quoted,
Ata bin Abi Rabah said: If they pray the party, you will not answer after today, Friday prayers, no afternoon, or other people except for that afternoon, both people in the village or people in that country
“‘Atha’ bin Abi Rabbah said,” If they have prayed Eid then no longer obligatory Friday and Zuhr prayers, or other prayers except Asr, not for Ahlu Qura nor for Ahlu Balad. “
Atha’s opinion is based on what he saw from Abdullah bin Zubair as told by Imam Abu Daud in Sunan,
Ibn Al -Zubayr prayed for us on Eid al -Fitr on Friday at the beginning
“Ibn Zubair led us to prayed Eid which coincided with Friday in the morning. Then in the afternoon we came for Friday prayers, but he did not come out (to lead us). Finally we prayed on our own.”
Atha’s opinion was muniqasyah by the scholars. Some understand that in fact Ibn Zubair did not abort the obligations of Zuhur. He might just pray at his house. There are also those who say, may be Ibn Zubair performed Friday prayers before slipping the sun (zawal). So he has combined the Eid prayer and Friday prayers.
But there is a firm person saying that Atha’s opinion is the opinion. Nobody took it. Al-‘Allamah Abu Umar Ibn Abdil Barr said,
It was told in this chapter about the authority of bin al -zubayr and gifts that said that he denied jurisprudence
“In this edition there is a good opinion narrated from Ibn Zubair and ‘Atha; Fuqaha’s opinions from various districts and not from those who took this opinion.”
However, Atha’s opinion is the subject of discussion (‘Munaqasyah’) among the ulama. Some argue that Ibn Az-Zubair did not abort the obligation of the Zhuhur prayer, only he might carry it out at home. There are also those who argue that Ibn Az-Zubair could have performed Friday prayers before the sun slipped (zawāl), so he combined the ID and Friday prayers in a close time.
